Labour will stand up for the BBC, make no mistake

2 weeks ago, David Cameron, prime minister of the United Kingdom, announced serious cuts in the BBC budget. But this won’t undermine the quality of the programmes, he claims. BBC and ministers say everyone’s a winner: licence fee will be frozen for the next six years (which is good for tax payers), BBC’s budget will be cut by 16% (which is good for the government) and BBC World Service will be strengthened through independence from the government.

The Labour Party is very critical about this measures. Where they want to cut budget? Jobs will be lost, programme quality loss can’t be avoided, …

This is a beautiful example on the contradiction between the interests of shareholders and the interests of stakeholders. Ministers attempt to justifie their actions, but their only goal is to reduce costs. I think that a budget cut wouldn’t really affect the programme quality. I’m a great Top Gear fan, it is a fantastic show. But is it really necessary to travel all continents to test a car? It’s fun to watch, but it doesn't offer any added value.
